Posted February 02, 2019 15:30:13The World Cup has come and gone, and with it the football season has come to a close.
With the world set to kick off on February 5, many fans will have a few things to do over the next few days.
The top-of-the-table nation of Bahrain will be making a return to the football field for the first time since the 2022 tournament.
Bahrain, which is the world’s poorest nation, was ranked 11th in the FIFA rankings and has not qualified for the finals since 2012.
With only three games left to play, the Bahraini players are still feeling the pressure from a poor season that saw them miss out on qualifying for the World Cup finals and losing in the first round to eventual champions Germany.
The country will be looking to bounce back from a difficult 2016, which saw it finish third in the AFC Asian Cup, finish in 11th place in the Confederations Cup, and miss out in the 2019 World Cup.
However, with a squad that includes former captain and current national team captain Khalifa Al Thani, the new team is expected to be a threat to anyone that the Bahrainis play.
The Bahraini squad will be led by former Manchester United star Thiago Silva, who was previously linked with a move to Real Madrid.
The squad will also include former England internationals Rio Ferdinand, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sam Allardyce, as well as former England and Tottenham midfielder Alex Oxletts.
In addition, there is a rumoured Manchester United target in the form of former Arsenal midfielder Wilfried Zaha, who has made just one appearance for the Red Devils.
The new Bahraini team will have some familiar faces on board.
In addition to Silva, the team is also led by goalkeeper Faisal Al Hamad, who will captain the side in the absence of former international captain Alaa Al Mughrabi.
Al Mughri, who played for England between 2008 and 2011, made just 14 appearances in all competitions for Bahrain, and the fact that he has been linked with moves to Madrid and Real Madrid is a big blow to the Bahrain squad.
Al Hamad’s retirement is not the only reason the Bahrain team is struggling, however.
The team has been struggling financially for some time now, and despite their strong financial backing from the government, they have not been able to build the team that would be expected to secure a place in next year’s World Cup final.
It is difficult to predict whether Bahrain’s squad will finish in the top 10 in the world, but it is clear that there are a few players that are looking for a fresh start after their disappointing 2016 campaign.
The team is coached by former England winger Ashley Young, who also helped the team to a World Cup title and the 2022 Confederations Trophy, and will be aiming to make a strong statement for their new team-mates in a new stadium.
The Bahraini national team will play host to the first match in the new stadium on February 3, which will also be the team’s first match since the 2019 tournament.
The first match against France in the stadium will be played on February 7, which coincides with the World Champions Cup final that Bahrain will host on February 10.
Bahrain’s football supporters are still hoping that they can make it to the finals, but with only three matches left, the pressure on the team could start to get too much for the Bahrainians.
